Overview
Working closely with the Retirement team the incumbent will provide retirement and investment consulting to Group Retirement clients who are predominately small to mid-size companies across Canada. This position directly supports the organization’s objective providing a superior level of financial and plan design advice.
The Consultant will work both independently and with a team to review, analyze, market, and provide recommendations on overall plan design and investments. The position includes the many detailed and broad functions involved in annual reviews, investment reviews, amendments and marketing group retirement plans, both on a daily basis and according to project timelines.
How you'll make an impact
- Consultant for a defined block of Retirement clients
- Maintain close relationship with the Retirement team, clients, and carrier partners
- Regularly prepare and deliver succinct and intelligent reports including investment reviews and annual plan reviews
- Provide product and process expertise in plain language to meet client needs
- Manage request for proposal and marketing process to provide information and recommendation for selection of appropriate carriers for clients
- Participate in responses to requests for proposal for new business
- Involved in business development initiatives for the Retirement practice to cross-sell through existing clients
- Understand and communicate what can be delegated to the carrier vs. what should be handled by the Consultant
- Proactively monitor service activity against service standards; watch for possible problems and proactively find solutions
- Creatively devise solutions and facilitate necessary process changes to ensure delivery of timely and efficient client service
- Proactively present new ideas to improve efficiencies
- Co-ordinate and occasionally deliver off-site Retirement Seminars to educate clients and their employees about fiduciary responsibilities, investment and retirement needs, and pension and tax legislation
- Work with the client to develop a communication strategy; prepare written communication pieces
- Attend investment manager and carrier due diligence meetings
- Conduct investment manager research on all asset classes
- Participate as a member of the investment committee to rate investment managers and carriers
- Understand investment performance data; investment manager styles and performance against stated style; review style consistency
- Evaluate and judge the similarities, differences, and capabilities of the various investment managers and carriers
- Assist in the development of articles or presentations on industry related trends
About you
Required: Bachelor's degree and 3 or more years client coordination and/or claims management experience, OR High School degree with 8 or more years client coordination and/or claims management experience. License required. Able and willing to travel approximately 25% of the time.
Preferred:
- Completed and current LLQP
- Working towards obtainment of CFA, CIPM or ASA designation; CFP, RPA, CEBS an asset
- Capital Accumulation Plan experience and knowledge of Canadian pension industry, group retirement and non-registered savings plans, and pension/investment regulations and legislation (some U.S. knowledge valuable, too)
- Bilingual (French) an asset
- Highly proficient in Microsoft Office programs (Excel, PowerPoint, Word)
